A blog with no set theme. It's kinda like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna get.

Getting Crafty

I am one of those people who wishes they were more crafty. I look at my Better Homes and Garden magazine each month and think, "I could do that". But I rarely ever do. I look at all the spring/summer outside decorations for a cookout and think not only, "I can do that", but "I'm going to do that". But I don't.
That's all going to change this year. My parents graciously gave me their patio furniture that they were no longer using. Kelly traded me a closet organizer for two rocking chairs (I know, I know--I got the good end of the deal). So now I have the outside furniture that a cookout requires.
One problem: I need cushions for the patio furniture. No prob, right? Just go shopping for some. Well, they're not cheap. Not when you have to buy 5. Solution: I'm going to make my own. I'm so excited--and nervous. I looked it up online and found a few sites giving step by step instructions. It doesn't really look hard at all. And I have a secret weapon: I'm going to solicit my Grandma for help. I figure with four hands, two sewing machines, and one know-how we can knock it out in a day or two. To me it's a win-win: I can save a little money, get the pride of knowing I did it myself, and it's a nice project to do with my Grandma. I'll probably cherish these cushions so much that no one will get to sit in them. ;)
Here are the sites I found in case anyone is interested in making their own as well:

An Early Look at Motherhood

I got the privilege of keeping my two favorite children in the world this week. We had so much fun! Catherine, 8, and Luke, 11, spent the night with me. When I asked their mom if we could do this, I hadn't really put much thought into what my duties would be. I had only thought about what I would cook for them and what kind of entertainment I would be providing. I  basically just saw it as an opportunity to hang out and have some fun.
It wasn't until the night before when I was on the phone with their mom and she was telling me what all they needed to do before bedtime that I realized all the work I'd have to put into it. Basketball practice after school, homework, baths, and in bed by 8:00. I just didn't think about all of that. I'd gotten so use to being responsible for just me that I had forgotten all the running around moms do.
I'm proud to say that we got everything done on time and HAD A BLAST doing it!!! And I have a renewed appreciation for mothers. I know my mom certainly scrambled to make sure we had everything we needed to have. Softball practice and games, band, show choir, piano lessons, dance lessons, etc.. Mothers truly are the everyday super-heroes!!!
Of course Luke and Catherine make it easy on a girl. They are two of the sweetest children on this planet. They are a true testament to their parents' good raising. Well-mannered, polite, respectful, and sweet--just the type of children I plan on raising one day. One day in the distant future....

Funtastic Weekend

Last weekend was awesome!!! The girls and I got together Friday night to hear Josh and John play at OBAG. Always a good time! What's not to love--good people, good music, good times. Vh1 was there to film a reality show so the place was packed. So much fun! Here's a few pics:

 Love this one of Jennay!

Saturday evening, Josh and I headed to Birmingham to the StarDome Comedy Club to hear James Gregory. It was so much fun!!! We laughed until our cheeks hurt--then we laughed some more. We sat with two other couples that were very sweet and fun. Afterwards we went to the Cheesecake Factory. Yummo!!!
We went to Peach Park on Sunday. I LOVE Peach Park! Josh had never been, but he now loves it too! Then we stopped by my sister's house and picked up my rocking chairs. My front yard is finally complete. (Pictures of yard soon to follow.)

Mullet Toss 2011

A few girlfriends and I loaded up the car a couple of weeks ago and headed to Orange Beach. We went to Mullet Toss at the FloraBama. It was so much fun!!! I liken it to an adult Spring Break. This was my second trip to Mullet Toss, and both trips have been amazingly fun!! I got to see a lot of people that I used to run with in college that I haven't seen in a really long time. Unfortunately, I ate some bad fish towards the end of the trip and got food poisoning. But if that was what I had to go thru to get a great weekend at the beach with perfect weather and awesome people then it was a small price to pay. Here's a few pics:
